In Kirundi, incuti means relative, and it can also mean friend. The name fits. When one man heard about JNP Coffee’s Dushime program from friends in another province, he reached out to JNP on behalf of the producers in his area.
The coffee grows at 1,900 meters near a high-altitude rainforest, planted in among tea, banana, beans and cassava. The cherries are fully washed before drying on raised beds.
In the cup it is tea-like and very clean, with fresh strawberry up front and a lime acidity underneath. The strawberry gets brighter as the cup cools, so give it a few minutes.
We buy our Burundi coffees through JNP Coffee, a Burundian-founded, woman-led importer. Through JNP’s Dushime® program, producers receive a second payment after their coffee sells, rewarding quality and giving families more stability from one harvest to the next.
