Gesha coffee is known to have some of the highest cup scores in the world. The Gesha variety originated in Ethiopia, but it wasn’t until 2007 in Panama that this variety made a name for itself when it broke records for one of the most expensive coffee ever sold in Best of Panama. Ever since, producers started growing more microlot varieties and experimenting with new coffee processing methods, which allow producers to get paid more for their coffee. This Gesha is from family owned Janson Farm, established in 1941, located between the Tisingal and Baru volcanoes. Quality production with harmony is Janson’s goal, keeping a balance of nutrients in the soil using enzyme microorganisms, while using no pesticides or herbicides. Plantations are separated by forests, which serve as natural barriers against pests and protect the natural flora and fauna. 400 solar panels produce the energy for the farms.

Very little to no flavor

Hi Kimberly, thank you for taking a chance on the Janson Gesha, and I'm truly sorry it came up flat in the cup. That's not the experience this coffee should give you. Washed Geshas are delicate by design, closer to jasmine and stone fruit than to a bold, punchy roast, and they open up best with a slightly finer grind and a higher coffee-to-water ratio than an everyday coffee. First Gesha - wonderful experience

It was my first Gesha trying -- it was a wonderful experience -- waiting 2 weeks after the roasting date and tasting as days go by, you can tell how the tastes would change in a good way -- would buy from Bean & Bean again soon.

Just a little short on the Gesha experience

There was little toastiness that crept in most of the time in the finish. This was true whether brewing espresso or having as a pour over. It also didn’t quite have the smooth mouthfeel I have typically gotten from Panama Geshas. The fruitiness was never acidic, and sweetness did come through at times. I just couldn’t find the clarity I usually can get from a Panama Gesha.

Not the best, but certainly a very, very, very nice coffee!

I've had so much good coffee over the past 40+ years that it takes something really exceptional to wow me. So from that perspective, this coffee is very tasty but isn't the uber supreme stuff. It's a great overall coffee and far better than the majority of cups you'll have. Sweet, light, floral, and delicate. I'd rate this actually between good and great. Not exactly one or the other.

A Gesha worth every $$

Fruit bomb and a price point that should help someone introduce themselves to this stunning varietal. BB roast date was day it was shipped and waited several more days to unpack and try. So glad I found this roaster at Trade.

I guess I'm not as much into coffee as I thought I was.

I've always drank my coffee black and have developed a taste for being able to point out cheap coffee that's unappealing to me and learned to develop an appreciation for certain brands. I heard about Gesha coffee before and thought I'd give it a try to see what may be so special about it only to decide that it's not really worth the money for me. I'll keep trying around to see if there's one I'm really in love with though.
